TPL Faculty Associate Emily Bender shares thoughts about the challenging public perception of AI in a new article in ARS Technica.
Bender commented on a survey comparing attitudes about AI that polled both the general public and AI experts. The findings showed the public is much less enthusiastic about the technology than experts but that both populations agree there is a lack of diversity in the viewpoints represented.
Bender noted that her upcoming book, “The AI Con,” aims to encourage critical thinking when it comes to AI, especially in the policymaking area.
“We’re trying to help people learn how to ask specific questions and understand automation in its context and sort of say, well, what’s being automated and why?” Bender told Ars.
