TPL Program Manager Alex Bolton explained various facets about the lawsuit against Meta for practices that exploit children and teens in The Daily’s recent article.
Bolton was the primary source for the story about Washington and other states filing suit against Meta, alleging the company intentionally targets children and teens with addictive algorithms and other app features and deliberately misled the public about the harm.
Bolton compared the current suit to the lawsuits against the tobacco industry in the 20th century.
“Part of the issue with the tobacco lawsuits back in the day, was that the tobacco companies knew some of the harmful side effects and didn’t share them, and would do things to try and keep them quiet,” Bolton said. “That’s kind of what’s happening here.”
