Welcome to the New Home of the Tech Policy Lab

Dr. Friedman, Dr. Kohno, and I are delighted to launch this collaboration, aimed at enhancing technology policy through interdisciplinary research. We are three faculty members at the University of Washington that work on privacy, security, integrity, human rights, and other overlapping issues from different perspectives. Together with our students, interns, and managing fellow, we intend to study existing and emerging technology such as Big Data, Augmented Reality and the Internet of Things, in an effort to bridge the gap between technologists and policy makers.

We’ll also be hosting conversations around these topics and seeking input from diverse quarters. It is my intuition, at least, that the important technological issues of our time cannot be resolved by reference to any single disciplines. And I think that the University of Washington, with its track record of objective research and interdisciplinary collaboration, is well-positioned to undertake this important effort. We are grateful to Microsoft for providing a no-strings, founding gift to make this Lab possible.

Stay tuned for updates, and please pardon our mess as we continue to populate this website with details about our ongoing work.
